The opportunity Apply your electrical engineering expertise in the context of electric vehicles Play a vital role in designing & testing software and hardware across various projects Join the talented & supportive team at CSIRO – Australia's National Science Agency We are currently seeking a motivated and talented Electrical Engineer, with practical/applied experience and an interest to advance their skillset through exciting R&D projects, to join our CSIRO Energy Systems program, and it might be the next career step you’re looking for The team you will be joining as a Research Engineer are investigating transport electrification and integration into Australian electricity systems. In this practical lab-based role, you will play a key role by undertaking a variety of tasks with high degree of specialisation, and bringing your electrical or mechatronic engineering expertise and skills to design experiments and implement software & hardware for electric vehicles to test performance and potential impact on infrastructure and grid. You will also be responsible for managing resources to meet project objectives, procuring necessary electrical vehicle hardware and software, as well as other governance and reporting activities. You will be using your strong problem solving, teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and if you have any experience working with electric vehicles, that would be particularly beneficial for this position. While a large component of this role would require practical lab-work and data analysis, you will still have the opportunity to explore certain flexible work arrangements to ensure work-life balance. Your duties will include: Designing and conducting experiments for. electric vehicle hardware and software. Managing resources and procurement of hardware and software to support infrastructure and equipment in CSIRO laboratories for electric vehicles. Reporting CSIRO’s innovative science in ways that meet clients, industry and key stakeholder expectations. Contributing to solving challenges for grid and charging infrastructure to accelerate transport electrification in Australia. Showing initiative to seek new approaches to meet experimental or technological needs when encountering new problems where methods are not defined. Location: Newcastle, NSW Salary: AU$93K – AU$105K pa up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: Specified Term of 3 years; Full-time (flexible) Reference: 96232 To be considered you will need: Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent relevant work experience in electronics or mechatronics engineering. Demonstrated professional engineering experience deploying mechatronic or electrical engineering concepts for real-world projects. Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, offering factual information supported by data, definitions, examples, illustrations or other aids. Demonstrated problem solving skills, and ability to investigate the underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems, and develop appropriate responses by adapting/creating and testing alternative solutions. Demonstrated ability to work agilely and effectively as part of both large and small multi-disciplinary teams, and willingness to proactively seek and consider the ideas and opinions of others from within and outside the team to help form decisions, plans or actions. Desirable: Experience working with electric vehicles or associated infrastructure, and programming languages such as Python programming, would be highly desirable.
