Jr Legal Counsel (Melbourne) — South Melbourne, Port Phillip

Reporting to Australia's Legal Counsel, and based in Melbourne, we are looking for a Jr Legal Counsel. The selected professional will be responsible for supporting our legal operations, focusing on contracts and compliance in the solar energy sector. What will you do? Legal Support: Provide legal support and advice on various aspects of renewable energy projects, from early-stage development, including land acquisition, permits and approvals, construction and operation/maintenance, Power Purchase Agreements and project financing. Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts related to solar energy projects and batteries, including lease and purchase agreements, EPCs O&M, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and service contracts. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with Australian laws and regulations applicable to renewable energy projects, including environmental, planning, and energy market regulations. Risk Management: Identify and advise on legal risks associated with project development, construction and operations, proposing mitigation strategies to manage such risks effectively. Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal teams, external counsel and other stakeholders to facilitate project development and address legal issues. Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of developments in law, regulations, and industry best practices relevant to solar energy and renewable resources. Compliance with internal policies: Ensure all legal operations adhere to internal policies and procedures, promoting a culture of compliance within the organization. What do we need? Law degree in Australia. Admission to practice law in Australia with 2-3 years of post-qualification experience. Experience in contracts, real estate, environmental law, or project finance, preferably within the energy sector or related fields. Previous experience in Law Firm will be considered. Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to promoting renewable energy and sustainability.
