Teacher English as Second Language - Holroyd High School — Sydney, Sydney Region

Position Information Holroyd High School is a small, successful comprehensive high school with a current enrolment of 481 students 7-12, including 86% non-English speaking backgrounds.    The school has a strong focus on Visible Learning and high expectations in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment which enables all students to grow and progress as learners. Holroyd High School has a strong focus on technology with a 1:1 student to laptop ratio, SMART Board in each learning space and a newly constructed Virtual Reality lab powered by Lumination Labs. The school has an Intensive English Centre for newly arrived students of non-English speaking background and a support unit for students with an intellectual disability and/or autism. The school receives equity funding to support students from low socio-economic backgrounds. Selection Criteria Approval to teach (secondary) ESS English as a Second Language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language (secondary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education. Proven ability to collaborate and co-teach with school teams, classroom teachers and curriculum leaders to develop and effectively implement EAL/D pedagogy to support the curriculum learning needs of all EAL/D students.  Proven ability to effectively use formative assessment and feedback to monitor English language development, academic performance, and the wellbeing of EAL/D students. Ability to analyse and evaluate data using the EAL/D Learning Progression and ESL Scales to inform practice, plan, create and deliver effective and meaningful English language learning activities to suit students individual learning needs. Proven capacity to support students from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, Pasifika students and students from refugee backgrounds. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
