With a proven track record in the development of utility scale photovoltaic (PV) solar energy projects, our client provides design, financing, construction and operation management to a diverse customer base of commercial, non-profit, utility and government clients. _______________________________________________________________ The BESS Project Engineer will be responsible for the project design for the battery energy storage solution to support the development, design and deployment of energy storage facilities, both standalone and collocated with solar generation. Key Responsibilities Act as the internal subject matter expertise on battery storage technology and performance for utility scale energy storage projects Provide technical insight in collaborative process with system integration managers to determine allowable product configurations and future products and technology Provide insight for the selection of software, hardware Develop new tools, implement processes, provide feedback, and work with other teams to ensure continuous improvement of the technology and engineering Energy storage project development Development of conceptual design documents for battery storage facilities Undertake project development activities including connection, regulatory requirements, permitting and technical support Provide support to the corporate finance team for project budgets Develop requirements for project safety systems and safety-oriented operational requirements Contacting suppliers and consultants for designing and implementing energy storage systems Providing RFP technical requirements and managing engineering vendors Define the scope of services and technical requirements for external consultants and contractors regarding the implementation of energy storage systems Prepare bidding documentation for project specific energy storage system works and equipment Create and maintain drawing packages and project documentation Project execution Determine and maintain the engineering, design criteria and applicable standards and specifications for BESS projects Lead all stages of energy storage system design, including conceptual and advanced system design, observing regulatory requirements, permitting and technical support during construction phase Design and optimise utility scale energy storage systems and their technical integration into utility scale PV power plants Simulate the technical performance of energy storage systems for technical and commercial system analyses in conjunction with PV power plants Lead the technical counterpart for the works conducted by external consultants such as engineering consultants during the design, construction and commissioning of energy storage systems Develop and review specifications, bill of materials, scopes of work, standards and quotes from suppliers and sub-contractors Provide recommendations for continuous improvements in project designs, plans, processes and product development Provide the technical lead on BESS supplier negotiations, Address contractor RFIs during the construction period, Provide start up and commissioning support. Experience and Qualifications Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related degree 5 years of professional work experience in designing electrical generation and storage projects. Knowledge of battery energy storage systems, including knowledge/experience of connections Understanding of different BESS technologies and applications Experience in providing cost-benefit analysis, business case development, technical due diligence, power systems simulation, asset management and future energy scenarios modelling. Experience in modeling BESS.
