Position Information Irrawang High School is proudly a comprehensive high school catering for students from Years 7-12, including support classes, with a strong focus on academic excellence and positive wellbeing. The school is located on Worimi land in East Raymond Terrace in the lower Hunter Region. In 2024, a total enrolment of 879 students, 24% of whom identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander attend Irrawang High School. The school prides itself on nurturing strong connections and relationships with a proactive P&C and Youyoong AECG. There is a strong emphasis on positive behaviour for learning, through a culture of connectedness and embedded values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. The school provides a learning environment that aims to give each student the opportunity to achieve their highest potential through the development of the whole student. Leadership focuses on whole school collective efficacy to realise improvements in the school’s achievement against the School Excellence Framework. Whole school professional learning is based in evaluative, data driven practices to collaboratively develop improvement strategies in literacy, numeracy, HSC and attendance achievement for all students. The senior executive team is positive, caring, collaborative, supportive, reflective and responsive to the needs of the school’s students, staff and community. The teaching and executive staff have a range of experience from beginning teachers through to highly experienced. In 2025 the school will expand its large, highly effective support unit, with 14 special education classes, an on-site Suspension Centre and a school funded Transition class. The school offers a wide array of programs and extra-curricular activities to assist and support students and families. The Science faculty is an energetic, enthusiastic faculty which works in highly effective ways to promote science activities and learning through to careers for students. The school is resourced with modern science laboratories and equipment. Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 1. Demonstrated capacity to collaboratively lead the planning and delivery of innovative, engaging programs and assessment that reflect the new science curriculum for the full range of learners, in a complex comprehensive high school. 2. Proven interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff and the broader community to create and maintain a trauma-informed, supportive learning environment that meets the needs of all learners. 3. Capacity to successfully lead and mentor Science staff in using data driven teaching practices to support a culture of continuous improvement. 4. Ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that address school priorities. General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
