Teacher Special Education - Wakefield School — Newcastle Area, Newcastle Region

Position Information Wakefield School is situated on the western shores of Lake Macquarie. Enrolment capacity is for 42 students, 6 ED (Emotional Disturbance) support classes for students in years 7-12. All students attend a 5-day program with 7 students, a teacher and a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) in every class.  Our school plays a vital role in providing every student the opportunity to experience success and to optimise their social, emotional, academic development and vocational competencies. Wakefield School shares this responsibility with the students, parents / carers / families, the community and other educational or specialist providers.  Selection Criteria Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with complex needs including mental health, emotional disturbance, behaviour difficulties, Autism and learning disorder. Experience to plan for, establish and maintain orderly & workable classroom routines whilst implementing effective teaching and learning programs to cater for individual needs for students in Year 7-12 with complex Mental Health, including evidence of successful learning, behaviour, cultural and wellbeing programs. Exceptional teamwork, communication, interpersonal, collaboration and organisational skills which build positive partnership to engage students, families, staff, and the wider school community (including inter-agencies). Demonstrated experience in implementing and/or leading whole school initiatives to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.   Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.   All Department of Education employees working in an SSP are required to be vaccinated as outlined at Vaccination requirements for school sites (nsw.gov.au) .
