Servicing 60 languages, SBS Radio and audio services are dedicated to the nearly five million Australians who speak a language other than English at home. To further deliver on our purpose and Charter, we have launched SBS-produced television news bulletins in Arabic. These bulletins are delivered Monday-Friday and focus on Australian news, particularly reflecting the perspectives of Arabic-speaking communities in Australia. The services also include national and international coverage of events and issues of particular interest and relevance to these communities. The Role We’re looking for journalists who would be interested in casual shifts with this new TV News bulletin. The Arabic TV News Bulletin runs Monday to Friday and is part of our News and Current Affairs department. This role will report to the Executive Producer, Arabic TV News and will be responsible for working on a range of television reporting and production tasks. They will be responsible for identifying, arranging, and reporting on news content relevant to the audience. About you We are looking for people who come equipped with: Proficiency in written and spoken English and broadcast standard Arabic is essential, including clear broadcast delivery. Candidates will be required to undergo a language assessment to demonstrate their proficiency in Arabic. Demonstrated understanding of the Arabic-speaking community in Australia. Demonstrated experience in journalism. Practical experience and demonstrated skills in broadcast reporting is a necessity and experience in providing content across all news platforms is an advantage. Demonstrated computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word, email and digital media editing/production software. Proven ability to work under pressure, meeting strict timelines. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally. You must have ongoing working rights in Australia. SBS is not in a position to be able to provide sponsorship for this role. While the program will run Monday to Friday, you will need to be able to do shift work. You’re interested.
