The Opportunity The Major Projects Win Work team pursues and bids for major infrastructure capital projects and programmes in New Zealand. We win profitable business by meeting customer needs more effectively than our competitors do. We also support project delivery, especially to manage risks associated with key bid decisions. Our Win Work team is on the hunt for an Engineering Manager. Reporting to the National Manager - Win Work you will be an integral part of the leadership team bidding for, and going on to deliver, major infrastructure projects and programme bids. This will typically involve working with JV and consortium partners. You will also identify and deliver continuous improvements to our business and processes, in relation to engineering management. In this role you contribute to the winning and delivery of new business by ensuring that the solutions we develop for D&C, other forms of competitive tender, and negotiated work meet all applicable requirements, and provide optimum value for money, through a structured and systematic approach to innovation and optimisation. Assist with evaluation and selection of Design Consultants for design and construction (D&C) projects, and agree their commercial arrangements in accordance with levels of authority and agreed project budgets. Accurately define the scope of work for consultants to be engaged to each project, including temporary works design. Ensure that customer requirements are understood, and that we achieve mutual understanding of what represents best value for money solutions Work with the Fulton Hogan Civil and Regional businesses, and design and construction consortium members, to agree the integrated design, construction, estimating, contingency, risk and commercial approach; resourcing; programme; systems; processes, and budget for each bid or negotiation Oversee and coordinate the design team outputs and deliverables in accordance with the agreed programme Contribute to effective knowledge continuity and handover / transition - from tender to design to delivery Coordinate the design and peer review processes, and all internal and external review and approval processes, including the interfaces with key technical and other stakeholders, and interested third parties Use structured and systematic processes that will drive our design and construction solutions to meet minimum requirements and standards while doing the least amount of work. Less work, less waste equals lower cost. What you'll bring to the table The person we are looking for will have 10 years' experience in design management, engineering management or other directly relevant roles working on multi-disciplinary highway and/or water projects > $100M in value and have the following experience and skills. Appropriate tertiary engineering qualification CPEng achieved or in progress 10 years' experience in design management, engineering management or other directly relevant roles working on multi-disciplinary highway and/or water projects > $100M in value Sound commercial understanding in relation to civil infrastructure construction; familiar with forms of contract commonly encountered in New Zealand Outstanding negotiating skills - works with others to identify motivations and influencing factors. Optimises outcomes to ensure win-win solutions with a long term relational (rather than transactional) approach. Knowledge of construction approaches, suppliers and subcontractors in the New Zealand market Knowledge of, and relationships with, design partners and civil contractors in New Zealand Excellent communication skills Encourages learning and capability growth. Takes responsibility for own continuous development.
