Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel specialising in both front and back-end construction law to join their team in Sydney. In this role, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing expert legal advice and support across a wide range of construction projects, from initial tender stages through to project delivery and completion. Key Responsibilities: Providing strategic legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on all aspects of front and back-end construction law, including contract negotiation, risk management, and dispute resolution. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of construction-related agreements, including contracts, subcontracts, and procurement documents. Collaborating closely with project teams to identify and mitigate legal risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Managing and resolving construction disputes, including claims, variations, and litigation matters, in a proactive and commercially astute manner. Conducting legal research and analysis to support informed decision-making and ensure legal compliance across construction projects. Developing and delivering training sessions and workshops to enhance legal awareness and capabilities within the organisation. Participating in project meetings and reviews to provide legal input and support project delivery objectives. Advising on insurance and bonding requirements and assisting with the negotiation of insurance policies and bonds as needed. Reviewing and advising on project documentation, including project proposals, tender documents, and project management plans. Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments affecting the construction industry and advising stakeholders on potential impacts and compliance requirements. Collaborating with external legal counsel, consultants, and experts as needed to support complex legal matters and ensure the best possible outcomes for the organisation. Contributing to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance legal risk management and optimise project outcomes. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB or equivalent), with admission to practice as a solicitor or barrister in Australia. Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on front and back-end construction law gained within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department. Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating construction contracts, including familiarity with standard forms of contract (e.g., AS, FIDIC). Strong understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and commercial drivers. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels. Sound judgment and analytical ability, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving. Full working rights in Australia.
