Legal Counsel — The Rocks, Sydney

What's so exciting about this role? Sitting within the Legal and Operational Risk and Compliance team, you will be part of the team that ensures that humm group complies with all relevant laws within a complex legislative and regulatory environment and protects the interests of humm group from a legal perspective. What does an average day look like? No day is average at humm but here’s an idea of what you can expect to do in this role: Reviewing and drafting commercial transactional documents, humm group standard form contracts, disclosure documents and customer communications. Providing technical advice on developments in the legal and regulatory environment as well as ad-hoc legal advice in other areas affecting humm group. Assisting in the implementation and maintenance of processes to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. Assisting the Compliance team with incident investigation and assessment and advising on remediation when needed. Supporting new product development, features and services offered by humm group. Supporting the development of policies, procedures, and training programmes for staff on legal issues. Assisting our Customer Relations team with the resolution of complex customer complaints or other claims and disputes. Providing legal advice and drafting support for the management team and external advisers evaluating and structuring future business opportunities. Working with external lawyers working on larger transactional or regulatory matters. Who will thrive in this role? We are looking for someone who is: 2 to 5 years post-admission experience in a commercial and financial services environment. Hands on, driven and persistent to deliver transactional and project-based legal, governance and compliance excellence. Genuinely empathetic approach, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop relationships. Adaptable, flexible and take a pro-active approach and a willingness to deliver legal advice at times under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. Able to demonstrate capability in providing high quality commercially aligned technical legal advice. Able to demonstrate capability to operate independently and with some autonomy with proportionate oversight from senior lawyers. Able to create accurate and complete information reporting as directed or requested, to ensure that the humm group Board and Executive Team are continuously informed of legal risk management and compliance issues. Strong in both oral and written communication skills and the ability to draft with limited supervision. Possesses strong commitment to humm group values and behavioral framework and the ability to actively drive a culture of legal excellence and a “culture of compliance” within humm group. Exemplary with time management and organisational skills proportionate to your experience. It would be a bonus if you had experience: Dealing with regulatory or industry bodies. Working in an in-house function within a financial services company or other ASX-listed corporate.
