About The Opportunity: Birchal is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our engineering team as we build new and exciting features for our platform. In this role you will be part of a product-focused team, reporting to the Lead Engineer and closely collaborating with engineers, designers and product management. Key responsibilities: Play a critical role in developing and maintaining robust and scalable web applications including our client-facing platform and supporting services Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to understand project requirements and translate them into technical solutions Help define development standards to ensure security, performance, and documentation are satisfactory Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to best practice as well as our own internal standards Mentor other engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing Work towards achieving a high level of automation, testing and observability across our systems Be a champion of agile ways of working, strategising to effectively deliver the next value increment to address real problems and opportunities whilst helping to plan out the larger and longer-term technical strategy, architecture, process/practice and engineering initiatives Skills: The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong skills in the following areas: Javascript and Typescript React.js or comparable front-end frameworks, including build tools (e.g. WebPack, Vite) Node.JS HTML5, CSS, Responsive design SQL (e.g. Postgres, MySQL or equivalent) ORMs (e.g. Sequelize, Prisma) Unit testing (e.g. Jest, snapshots, use of mocks) GraphQL and/or REST APIs Cloud Deployment and Infrastructure Management (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure) Software architecture (e.g. use of sensible patterns and practices) The following skills are highly regarded, but not essential: Automated Testing (e.g. Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) Build Pipelines (e.g. GitHub actions, GitLab workflows) Knowledge of containerisation (e.g. Docker) and orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes) is a plus. About Your Experience: 7 years of relevant experience, ideally gained in a product-driven company Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field Proven experience as a Fullstack Engineer with a focus on JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Node.js Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Effective communication and collaboration abilities Strong initiative – in a small team you can make a huge impact, but you need to recognise and respond to what is needed Agile advocate - you understand the value of building incrementally and having short feedback cycles, and you actively participate in sprint ceremonies Product - You understand a product-driven process and keep the customer and business drivers in mind to inform your engineering solutions What We Offer: Birchal provides a fun and energetic, supportive and inclusive work environment that is collaborative and offers flexible working arrangements including work-from-home 2 days per week.
