AVP, Legal, Protection, Australia Job Title AVP, Legal, Protection, Australia Job Description Duties To work closely with Pacific Life Re's Protection line of business on legal aspects of the protection business, focusing on the Australia market, including: Drafting, negotiating and amending life reinsurance treaties with clients Providing legal support and advice on high value or disputed life insurance claims Advising on life insurance policy reviews and underwriting and claims processes Documenting retrocession arrangements This may also involve liaising with external counsel. Identifying and taking ownership of legal and compliance issues for Pacific Life Re (Australia) Pty Limited ( PLRA ) as a legal entity: Advising the business on the applicable regulatory context for business operations, particularly APRA regulations, data protection and financial services law Maintaining currency in changes to the legal and regulatory context of the business' operations, communicating changes internally and assisting the business to identify and implement consequential operational changes Monitoring and reporting on execution of compliance related activities Drafting and updating internal compliance policies and regulatory compliance plans Undertaking compliance testing and executing actions arising Providing induction and ad hoc compliance training to staff Serving as company secretary for PLRA, including coordinating preparation of board packs and drafting of minutes of board meetings. Drafting, reviewing and advising on back office commercial agreements, including supplier agreements, intragroup finance agreements and property leases. Dealing with ad hoc legal and compliance queries from the business (e.g., contract interpretation, regulatory interpretation, data protection, HR). Other duties as required of the Legal team from time to time. Qualifications & Experience Essential: Qualified solicitor (Australia or England and Wales), with at least 5 years' PQE At least 3 years' experience in a top tier law firm General contract and commercial law experience Good experience drafting and negotiating high-value contracts Demonstrated experience with competing demands and tight deadlines Demonstrated experience communicating directly with business/clients Desirable Legal experience relating to the financial services sector, and the insurance/reinsurance sectors in particular Key skills Good legal drafting skills Strong attention to detail, organised, conscientious Comfortable working with competing demands and tight deadlines A self-starter who enjoys variety and dealing with non-standard and unstructured requests, sometimes at short notice Ability and desire to communicate with business customers at all levels across the business Works well within a team environment Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibility Working For Pacific Life Re Every person in our global team is valued for the unique qualities they bring to our business and we seek to build their expertise and support their individual ambitions at every step.
