Roster: Monday to Friday We are seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join our design team. The successful person will provide technical input and guidance across all aspects of geotechnical design for Fortescue's current mining operations. The Lead Geotechnical Engineer is an accountable role and requires a person with proven experience in open pit mining operations, geotechnical characterisation, and slope stability analysis. The successful person will have a track record for delivery of safe and value adding geotechnical designs, in alignment with regulatory and industry guidelines. This is a Perth based role where you will be leading other Geotechnical Engineers and providing mentorship and guidance to them. The role reports to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer and works closely with peers in our Geotechnical Assurance and Structural teams as well as stakeholders throughout the mining value chain. Key Responsibilities Lead geotechnical analysis and reporting related to open pits and waste rock dumps. Support operations to implement geotechnical designs and to define effective monitoring programs. Undertake studies associated with active mining operations and sustaining development projects. Support geotechnical data collection and management. Provide technical advice and consultation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Assess and communicate geotechnical risk in slope designs. Support the development, implementation, and management of geotechnical design standards associated with open pit slope and waste rock dump design. Lead and mentor other Geotechnical Engineers. Engage and contract manage external consultants. Irregular site travel to support geotechnical design work and reconciliation. Qualifications and Experience A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or similar is preferred. Extensive open pit mining experience. Geotechnical design knowledge with demonstrable ability in both characterisation and stability analysis. Experience in a range of geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological settings. Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders. Well-developed report writing skills. Strong data management and manipulation skills are essential.
