About this opportunity As the Senior Engineer Road Maintenance, you'll be responsible for the maintenance operations and delivery of road infrastructure across the region. That's a split of 974kms of sealed roads, and 795kms of unsealed roads, including 263 floodways and associated road infrastructure, totaling 1769kms. It's a diverse team providing support as you deliver the maintenance required across councils' roads: Coordinator Transport Operations, Engineer Road Maintenance and Business Support Officer to provide technical, logistical and administrative support. 3 x Senior Supervisors manage the delivery of road maintenance activities aligned to their district (Eastern, Central and Western). Multiple contractors delivering road maintenance activities for council. You will be responsible for their contractual delivery, building on the strength of the relationship and ensuring the delivery is meeting council expectations, quality standards and outlined requirements. Offering real variety, you will work across all levels of council, represent and endorse technical decisions, financial, strategic and contractual performance and be the individual leading, engaging and understanding the needs of your team, Council staff and the community for all aspects of road maintenance. Key responsibilities include: Oversee and manage the execution of sealed and unsealed roads, footpath, and drainage maintenance projects in alignment with Council's Annual Capital Works Program and Operational Plan. Conduct monthly and quarterly reporting on expenditure and progress related to Maintenance, Operations, and the Capital Works Program. Contribute to long-term financial plans, annual budgets, and the ten-year capital program by providing advice on maintenance and budgets. Ensure the Council's policies for road, drainage, and transport infrastructure are adhered to. Provide expert advice on the development and implementation of Council Policies, Procedures, and Local Laws. Offer specialised recommendations for improvements in these areas. Handle the preparation and administration of annual supply/construction contracts. This includes resource-based and/or quantity-based estimates on major works, ensuring compliance with Council standards and regulations. Liaise and negotiate with external stakeholders such as property owners, government departments, and service authorities. Manage Road Corridor applications, including those from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, utility providers and the community. Provide expert advice as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ). Ensure compliance with Council policies, procedures, and information systems, maintaining a focus on quality, safety, and environmental management. About you: Considerable experience working as a Civil Engineer (or equivalent) for sealed and unsealed road infrastructure. RPEQ certified, or able to obtain certification, shortly after commencement. Proven Project Management skills in civil operations including plan reading, project estimation and project planning. Demonstrated skills in providing technical oversight and leadership, financial management, planning and negotiation. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills that support your ability to influence, tailor and target your messaging for the optimum outcome. A desire to lead and mentor your team, by example and experience in developing skills and behaviours aligned to Council's objectives and values.
