About the role The Senior Linux Engineer will establish, ensure, and maintain the ongoing operational excellence of our internally managed databases, server, and storage environment with a focus on resilience, reliability, recoverability, and security. Key accountabilities include: Design and implement solutions across Linux, database, backup, and storage platforms. Help develop and implement comprehensive Linux cloud migration strategy. Conduct detailed technical analysis to ensure compatibility and optimise the architecture for cloud environments. Manage system performance in various environments including production and disaster recovery. Develop and enforce IT policies and standards. Provide infrastructure support and manage incident resolutions. Develop and test disaster recovery solutions. Monitor system performance and capacity management. Develop Linux administration standards. Manage and resolve Linux system issues. Provide out-of-hours support as part of a 24x7 rotating roster. Oversee and coordinate tasks for a team of Linux and Database Administrators. Document processes for service continuity. Support the Infrastructure Manager in operational management. Oversee team operations and performance. Facilitate team development and training. Ensure team compliance with company standards and IT policies. Task manage resource allocation and project involvement. Act as a point of escalation for team-related issues. About you The successful candidate will be an experienced IT Engineer with storage experience, you will have experience in a similar role but also the ability to understand how everything fits in Pacific National's IT environment. Ideally, you will have previous leadership experience role to be able to hit the ground running and lead the existing team. Experience, skills, and knowledge to be successful in this role: Expertise in Linux operating systems including deployment and automation. 5 plus years of operational experience in enterprise-class Linux administration. Task management experience. Proficiency in scripting (shell, Perl, Python) and automation technologies (puppet, ansible). Strong troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of virtualisation (including open source & VMWare), hardware, backup, and storage. Experience with Oracle engineered systems including Exadata and Oracle Cloud Cloud experience (MS Azure preferred) Management of enterprise backup using Veritas NetBackup with NetBackup appliances The benefits At Pacific National we value diversity, inclusion, and the contribution of each team member.
