THE POSITION: Council is seeking a technical specialist in the field of catchment management to apply specialist expertise in civil or environmental engineering to provide solutions to complex and interrelated issues around flooding, stormwater drainage, stormwater quality, creek health, biodiversity and amenity. The Professional Engineer will rely on broad experience in the fields of stormwater management, floodplain management, natural resource management, water sensitive urban design and creek rehabilitation to deliver projects that may range from large planning studies and investigations, through to detailed design, construction and maintenance. The role requires an understanding of catchment principles and processes related to hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, geomorphology and ecology. Working within a tight-knit, high-performing team environment, the role will contribute to Council’s efforts to reduce flood risk, improve stormwater quality, restore waterway health and enhance public amenity across Fairfield City. ESSENTIAL: Knowledge and experience in natural system management including; stormwater management floodplain management geomorphology water sensitive urban design urban stream rehabilitation engineering survey Proven project management skills to ensure all projects are delivered within time, budget and resource constraints including the preparation of accurate cost estimates. Highly developed written communication and research skills to present concise and accurate reports, as well as preparing technical papers, conference and seminar presentations and grant applications. Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and to represent Council capably to developers, consultants, other government agencies and the public. Fluency and self-reliance with Microsoft Office computer applications and specialised engineering software packages (such as MapInfo, DRAINS, XP Software, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, MUSIC, CivilCAD, AutoCAD, etc) Working knowledge of Local Government and relevant engineering policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and practices. Ability to extract an innovative design solution, using knowledge, experience, best practice standards and conflict resolution skills, where a number of complex alternatives exist. Ability to work in a position that has a high level of independence and minimal supervision. The ability to organise and prioritise work to meet the objectives of the Catchment Planning branch whilst adapting to changing demands or unforeseen conditions. DESIRABLE: Post Graduate Studies relevant to natural systems. SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Permanent position, 70 hours per fortnight This position is a Grade 6, salary range is $89,415 p.a. with progression to $98,698 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $104,738 p.a. Flexible working hours are available. Civil Liability Allowance.
