Job Description About the role The Senior Safety Engineer is a leadership role within EOS Defence Systems and is responsible for influencing the design, operation, and maintenance of systems by developing and maintaining safety documentation including Safety Plans, Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis and Reports and Hazard Logs to enable development of baselined and software designs that support the product development and product goals of EOS DS. In this role you will: Work closely with Project leads, Designers and Systems Engineers to track, catalogue and manage the lifecycle status of design safety and hazards, causes and mitigations. Responsible for all system safety aspects on allocated projects. Conduct safety working groups with internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for the presentation of safety analysis at various design lifecycles. Support improvement initiatives for the System Safety policies, processes, and procedures. Provide guidelines to junior engineers to develop their skills and capabilities. Provide professional peer reviews on product safety deliverables. Support engineering estimation for safety deliverables effort. Maintain/update Hazard Log, Safety Case Reports and records associate with the system safety program. Ensure that safety requirements are management, traceability in scoped deliverables. Engage with Defence customers and other EOS engineering groups both locally and internationally as required to solidify system safety requirements. Represent EOS at meetings with customers to ensure successful delivery of all required deliverables and respond to customer feedback effectively to ensure deliverables are accepted by the customer within the agreed schedule constraints. Engage with the design authority regarding safety engineering. Adhere to and ensure understanding and compliance with company procedures to achieve a safe and secure work environment. Desired Skills and Experience About You The Senior Safety Engineer exercises deep engineering technical knowledge within specialist disciplines and can enable strategic alignment. You will adhere to governance and standards as well as mobilising people to achieve business outcomes with the appropriate levels of integrity, safety and ethics is critical to the role. You will show initiative and judgement in the interpretation and application of standards and requirements. The Senior Safety Engineer may lead a small team and you will provide a high level of support to team members, in consultation with project leadership team. Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role. Experience in applying system safety knowledge to complex systems. Understanding in system safety engineering and will have a good understanding of Defence and International System Safety standards, such as MIL-STD-882, DEF STAN 00-56 or IEC 61508. Experience with ASDEFCON deliverables. Experience with complex integrated systems with safety critical embedded software Experience in defence or safety engineering in rail or other similar industries. Qualifications: Postgraduate qualifications in system safety engineering are highly desirable. Engineering Degree or technical certificate in Electronic/ Mechanical Systems or related fields recognised by The Institute of Engineers Australia.
