About the role: PERSOLKELLY is looking to hire a process engineer for its esteemed client in the field of nuclear science and technology. The client is known to provide practical solutions and innovative technology in ways that deliver financial and environmental benefits to the mining and mineral processing industries. POSITION PURPOSE The primary objective of the Process Engineer / Hydro metallurgist is to provide engineering and experimental inputs in aid of pilot plant scale process testing and development. The Minerals business in the organization is a team with expertise that covers chemical engineering, metallurgy, mineralogy, chemistry, geology, and radiation safety. It incorporates a Pilot Plant Group that undertakes pilot plant and related projects to support the commercialization of new processes and process improvements. ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Key Accountabilities Develop experimental programs and process designs to complete tasks and satisfy the objectives of client's Minerals projects. Design process equipment, pilot plants, and apparatus for experiments to meet the client's Mineral industry client requirements. Foresight to understand likely practical problems that will be encountered is needed. Conduct experimental work and ensure that the data obtained is reproducible, accurate, appropriately recorded, and reported in a report-ready format to ensure that the client receives a high-quality consultancy service. Analyse, summarise, and interpret data from experimental and pilot programs to ensure that the project/task leader receives reliable data in a reportable format. Recognize the value of data and identify gaps that need to be filled to draw conclusions and develop process solutions. This involves applying sound judgment based on scientific knowledge/experience to identify good data and the ability to credibly question results. Communicate technical information to inform the Minerals' task/project managers of the progress of tasks, noting any issues that need addressing. Produce first-draft technical notes and reports for the task/project managers to facilitate reporting to Minerals' clients. Record test/laboratory results accurately and keep appropriate laboratory notebook records of test work to ensure that all Minerals clients receive a consistently high-quality consultancy service. Seize opportunities for innovation and creativity for solving scientific problems and provide competitive advantage to Minerals projects. Take on an area supervisor role to both maintain and improve the management, cleanliness, and organization of pilot plant areas. Establish and foster professional networks to promote their Minerals business unit. Undertake additional duties as required and during periods of leave of other staff. Key Challenges Design and construction of complex pilot plants to tight deadlines. Troubleshooting pilot plant equipment and processes. Working with multi-disciplinary and specialist teams towards common goals. Managing the client's expectations while managing multiple competing tasks and priorities. Key Relationships The Process Engineer reports to the Manager of pilot Plant Operations. On a project basis, the role may involve some supervision/oversight of technicians to set up and operate pilot plants, as well as to improve pilot plant facilities. The position's key internal customers include members of the Minerals team. This position may occasionally interface with external clients. Networking in the mining industry is encouraged. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Degree in Chemical Engineering / Metallurgy or higher. Any experience in Chemical Engineering / Hydrometallurgy including pilot plant and process equipment operation and laboratory-related work experience would be highly regarded. The ability to work under limited supervision, prioritize work, and respond to changing priorities and deadlines to complete assigned duties. Demonstrated ability to communicate information establish productive relationships and share information with others, including strong teamwork and customer service focus. Demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures, regulations, and OHSE requirements. Intermediate skills in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Hold a current driving license.
