About the branch The Litigation and Dispute Resolution (L&DR) Branch is a team of approximately 60 legal practitioners and an additional team of 35 (approx.) legal support staff, including paralegals that provide specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments. The Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging litigation, working on matters which are topical and often involve public interest issues. Matters cover areas such as general civil claims, tortious claims and personal injury claims by prisoners, police civil claims, negligence, State care and personal injury matters, commercial law, defamation, injunctions, contempt of court, judicial review (Order 56 of the Supreme Court Rules), vexatious litigant applications, statutory interpretation, inquests, Crimes (Mental Impairment & Unfitness to be Tried) Act matters, supervision order matters, subpoenas, warrants of seizure and sale. About the role An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated Senior Legal Assistant to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch. The role will provide comprehensive secretarial and . It would ideally be suited to someone looking to build on their existing experience and progress their career in this field. Day to day responsibilities include: Preparing, formatting and reviewing legal documentation, including correspondence and court documents Electronic service of court documents via online platforms Liaising with clerks and preparing e-briefs for counsel Autonomous file management - conduct of matter related tasks, monthly billing and maintaining efficient and effective electronic files Calendar and mailbox management Each day can bring something different and varied, extending from providing support to lawyers of all levels, training and developing junior legal support staff along with opportunities for your own training and skill development. We are looking for an experienced administrator who is calm under pressure, is able to manage multiple stakeholders, has the ability to prioritise tasks using sound-judgement and with excellent written and verbal skills with a variety of stakeholders at all levels. This role requires a high level attention to detail and is suited to someone who proactively seeks opportunities to create better efficiencies in the workplace, both at a branch and organisational level. To be successful you will bring to this role your demonstrated skills and experience including: Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring junior staff and colleagues Demonstrated experience in legal administration, with litigation an advantage Advanced knowledge using Microsoft Office Demonstrable capability in providing high quality assistance to a team of solicitors, in a deadline driven and fast paced environment Strong understanding of legal processes and court jurisdictions, legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems Self-starter who takes initiative, and has the ability to operate autonomously, with advanced skills in problem solving Excellent attention to detail, with a commitment to service excellence Benefits VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge.
