You’ll feel a real privilege being a trusted caregiver in our patients, their families, their carers, and our communities’ lives.   Where you'll be working Health Information Services at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital What you'll be doing The Medico-Legal and Combine Clerk is responsible for fulfilling the requirement of combining duplicate medical record numbers and processing medico legal requests throughout Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) in regard to release of information to internal and external customers in compliance with legislation, NSW Health policy, NSLHD policy, local hospital and Health Information Services (HIS) policies and procedures. Undertaking a range of administrative duties within HIS to support patient care at the facility with an emphasis on the investigation, resolution and amalgamation of duplicate medical records. Liaise and communicate with both the Northern Sydney Local Health District - Unique Patient Identifier Team (NSLHD-UPI) and HIS Managers as required in the management and resolution of patient duplicate identifiers and cross-facility duplicates Providing feedback to users creating duplicates within 24 hours of duplicate notification.  Meet KPIs for Duplicates as required by NSLHD and update the Duplicates database daily. Coordinating medico-legal correspondence [for example requests for subpoenas, clinical notes requests, Chapter 16As, Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC), Ombudsmen, Child Death Review Team (CDRT)], medical correspondence, deceased paperwork, in person and telephone enquiries received in HIS, and responding accordingly. Coordinating requests includes but is not limited to logging on relevant Medico-Legal Databases, obtaining relevant fees and consents/authority where applicable, allocating to appropriate areas, photocopying where required and liaising with internal and external customers.  Receiving all subpoena requests and ensuring they are promptly completed and dispatched to court on time. This includes, where applicable, outpatient notes, Community medical records. Ensure all monies are paid and receipts issued. Answer all external/internal telephone enquiries relating to patient information and requests from solicitors, insurance companies, police, compensation authorities and patients. Attend medico-legal meetings and training sessions as required. Attend to inquiries from people presenting to the front reception counter. Involvement with Quality Improvement activities. Relieve HIS clerks to cover breaks or as directed by the Manager. Train new staff members when required by the Manager. Maintain a strong commitment to customer service. Utilise Patient Administration Systems (eMR) and other software such as IIMS and Outlook To perform all delegated tasks within award provisions and in line with your grading. Flexibility to provide support to HIS on Weekends and Public Holidays   People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply. Candidates will need to meet the following criteria: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with sound analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent organisational skills, including time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and to work under pressure. Demonstrated understanding of the Health Privacy Principles, patient confidentiality, government disposal and retention authorities, workplace health and safety and working knowledge of health record processes.
