QinetiQ are now accepting applications for this key leadership role within our Engineering and Innovation Business Unit (BU). The BU delivers mostly low TRL engineering design and manufacturing projects and tasks across Australia with a geographic focus in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Although ideally, this role will be based in Victoria other locations such as Canberra and Adelaide will be considered. Reporting to the Engineering & Innovation BU Managing Director, the BU Chief Engineer is responsible for the safety, compliance and performance/quality of all designs and products developed and released by the BU. As Chief Engineer you will be accountable for: Providing technical leadership, oversight, guidance and first line assurance of the BU technical outcomes Supporting a safety first culture across the BU in all technical activities undertaken by the BU Delegation as the Design Authority for QinetiQ designs and products Acting as Head of Design of the QinetiQ Part 21J Military Design Organisation in the defence aviation regulatory system (Defence Aviation Safety Regulations) Supporting the development and sustainment of technical capabilities, standards and practice, enabling ongoing technical regulatory compliance and accreditation in consultation with Technical Excellence (AU Sector) Setting the engineering and technical standards and practice and authorising personnel to conduct engineering and technical work. Ensuring Technical Authority is sufficient for the needs of the Business Unit Working with the Quality Manager to ensure that the Technical Management System processes (as defined in the Quality Management System) enable achievement of business requirements in a safe, compliant, effective and efficient manner Supporting Program Directors and Program Managers in the resolution of technical matters including supporting stakeholder meetings to promote understanding and acknowledgement of QinetiQ's technical assurance and safety culture Supporting development of technical solutions to meet customer needs, including engaging with customers as required and supported by Program Directors, Business Development and Project Managers To be successful in the role of Chief Engineer you will need to bring with you: First degree in science or engineering with an additional proven record of significant experience and demonstrated competence in an engineering leadership role Qualifications and experience to achieve Chartered Practicing Engineer with Engineers Australia or equivalent An excellent track record in delivery of technical outcomes across mechanical, electronics and software engineering disciplines Experience in delivery of technical outcomes across a variety of project types including leading R&D activities through to low volume production activities Experience in a position of technical leadership, preferably within the Defence/Aviation sector Experience working within and maintaining Engineering Management Systems and ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and technical safety and risk management Demonstrated understanding and experience in review and certification of system designs under a documented and robust Technical Management System Demonstrated understanding and experience in development of designs including the process review and release for prototype build or manufacture Experience in leading and managing teams, including the ability to influence informal teams, internal and external stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts Experience working with project managers and leaders to balance project risk, schedule and cost A keen interest in contributing toward the engineering profession through a variety of activities such as writing papers and blogs, delivering professional development presentations, mentoring others and maintaining membership of a professional organisation Whilst not essential, an understanding of and experience in application of Australian Defence Force (ADF) certification principles, processes and standards would be highly regarded Candidates will need to hold an NV1 Australian Government Security Clearance.
