Opportunity for career advancement Full time position based in Sydney - Ultimo The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has become available for a Design Engineer (Telecommunications) to join the Engineering and Design team at Transgrid. The design engineer is responsible for design of telecommunications transmission system and maintain telecommunications provisioning system. As a Design Engineer (Telecommunications), your main duties will be: Technical Perform design of telecommunications transmission systems for a power utility using existing and upcoming telecom technologies including MPLS-TP, SDH/PDH and DWDM complying to Transgrid, Australian and international standards meeting the reliability and security of communication systems Prepare concept design, safety in design (SID), design advice, detail design packages, cutover plans and commissioning packs for customer connections, replacement and major projects Support in preparation and improvements of communication design standards. Perform feasibility studies to determine communication design requirements for proposed projects Provide ongoing engineering support during commissioning and maintenance of telecommunications systems including Network Management System ConnectMaster management: Day to day user management, prepare and improve ConnectMaster standards and procedures, module creation, upgrades/testing/IT coordination, audit with other available data, Monitoring for inconsistencies in CM data & any matter related to ConnectMaster Perform Technology and Equipment market study, engage vendors/contractors for specific works, Provide support to senior designers for tender specifications, evaluation, concept testing and reporting. Understand and provide support for telecom DC power system About you Tertiary qualification at degree level in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent Experience of telecommunication projects Working knowledge and experience in following: Sound knowledge of telecommunications transmission systems like SDH, PDH, MPLS and DWDM Ethernet networking with preferable CCNA certification with ability to design and manage router switches and ethernet backbone network The ability to read and interpret schematics, technical operating diagrams, technical manuals, technical procedures and commissioning programs Ability to use Corporate IT applications like Microsoft, CAD, document management systems, design tools Competent to manage self by showing initiative to interpret work required, seek advice and organise tasks within time constraints and the ability to work effectively in a team environment Ability to promote a high standard of professionalism, effective communication and personal integrity within the design team Ability to work in a team environment Current driver's licence and the ability to work away from assigned location Have a good understanding of cyber security requirements for critical infrastructure Desirable Preferably have some experience in Telecommunication Design Management System (like NMS, Netcracker, ConnectMaster) Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of telecommunications design processes, telecommunication systems, procurement and specification preparation, and management of projects Some understanding of Microwave systems Recognition & Reward In return for your hard work, we have numerous benefits and initiatives to support you personally and professionally including but not limited to private health insurance discount, motor vehicle lease plan, career development support, study assistance program and workplace flexibility.
