An exciting opportunity is available for an Aboriginal Health Practitioner to join the Connecting Care Team on a permanent full time basis. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (male identified) will work in partnership with Community Health Care clinicians to achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal clients. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide cultural support, education and referral for Aboriginal clients and act as a liaison between Aboriginal family members and health service providers. All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.   Selection Criteria to be Addressed :  This is a male Aboriginal Identified position. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District considers that being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent to be a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. Holds a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice and is registered as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the health issues and key polices that impact on Aboriginal Community across NBMLHD. Including grief and loss, intergenerational trauma, child protection, domestic violence, substance abuse and the burden of chronic illness. Demonstrated experience in conducting clinical responsibilities under the supervision and direction of a registered/regulated health professional. Possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and basic computer skills Current NSW State driver's licence (including P1 or above) and willingness to use for work purposes.
