Where you'll be working: Aged Care Assessment encompasses the evaluation of physical, cognitive, medical, psychological, environmental and social aspects. Referral to other services and carer support and education are also essential aspects of the position. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Grade 2 classification encompasses the CNS Grade 1 role criteria as clinical resource person for the Aged Care Assessment Team with the additional role characteristics of • Exercising extended autonomy of decision making • Exercising professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills • Undertakes an authorised extended role as an accredited ACAT Assessor and / or Delegate within the scope of Registered Nurse practice Our Hospital and Community: The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW, which is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and is located in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney. Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’ A $62.9 million redevelopment has delivered a new and expanded emergency department, 60 new acute inpatient beds, and storage space for theatres to improve efficiencies. Current refurbishment works to provide an expanded medical imaging service are in progress. The hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. Gymea is another lively suburb with many restaurants and cafes. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex. The ideal candidate will have: Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence. Relevant Post graduate qualifications within the field and at least 3 years recent experience working within Aged Care or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations. Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient and carer education. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others. Advanced aged care assessment skills and detailed knowledge and understanding of the Aged Care Act (1997) and Aged Care Principles. Proficient computer skills including ability to utilise Microsoft Office applications and demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology e.g. eMR, CHOC, My Aged Care. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing. In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant. Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
