To further deliver on our purpose and Charter, we have launched SBS-produced television news bulletins in Mandarin. These bulletins are delivered Monday-Friday and focus on Australian news, particularly reflecting the perspectives of Mandarin-speaking communities in Australia. The services also include national and international coverage of events and issues of particular interest and relevance to these communities. The Role The Mandarin TV News Bulletin runs Monday to Friday as part of our News and Current Affairs department. We are looking for Journalists who would be interested in casual shifts with the Mandarin TV News team. This Sydney-based role reports to the Executive Producer, Mandarin TV News and is responsible for working on a range of television reporting and production tasks. It is responsible for identifying, arranging, and reporting on news content considered relevant to the audience. The Mandarin TV News team is part of our News and Current Affairs department. The team also collaborates with our existing Mandarin team working in the Audio Language and Content division currently focused on radio, online and social input only. The journalist will be responsible to own and deliver stories of the highest editorial standards. Applicants should be ready to do shift work where required. About you Ideally, we are looking for someone with: Proficiency in written and spoken English as well as Broadcast Mandarin are essential. Candidates should have clear broadcast delivery and will be required to undergo a language assessment to demonstrate their proficiency. Demonstrated understanding of the Mandarin-speaking communities in Australia. Demonstrated experience in journalism. Practical experience and demonstrated skills in broadcast reporting and producing. Demonstrated computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Teams, email and digital media editing/production software. Proven ability to work under pressure, meeting strict timelines. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally. You must have ongoing working rights in Australia. SBS is not in a position to be able to provide sponsorship for this role. While the program runs Monday to Friday, you will need to be able to do shift work. All roles are full time however we are open to support part time applications where operationally possible – so please make a note of this in your cover letter if that is your preference.
