The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) is the registered nurse in charge of a ward/unit or group of wards/units or a service within SESLHD. The purpose of the NUM is to:lead, direct and co-ordinate patient or client care;ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives;lead and co ordinate the nursing and multidisciplinary care team at the ward or unit level, and monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit. As the leader of the unit, the NUM2 will demonstrate her/his capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes, namely:broad nursing experience and knowledge;understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery;professional integrity;ethical conduct;accountability;advocacy;enabling others;cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective team work;commitment to advancing the profession of nursing and care provision. The Nursing Unit Manager Level 2, whose responsibilities in relation to patient services, ward or unit management and staff management are in excess of those of a Nursing Unit Manager Level 1. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing. All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.   A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements. In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant. Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
