About the Role The Legal function is responsible for providing strategic legal advice to enable BHP to achieve its commercial objectives and manage legal risk in compliance with applicable laws and consistent with the BHP Charter and Code of Conduct. We have an excellent opportunity for a lawyer to join BHP's Legal team as a Legal Counsel - Employee Relations. Reporting to the Head of Legal - Employee Relations, this is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with a leading global resources company. This role will provide legal advice and support to the BHP Group and particularly the Minerals Australia business on employee relations legal matters including legal reform, industrial relations strategy, bargaining, industrial disputes and unfair dismissals. The role can be based in Brisbane or Perth, with occasional travel as required. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Acting as a key adviser and providing independent, targeted legal advice on employee and industrial relations legal matters to the Minerals Australia business. Acting as key adviser on employment legal issues supporting our Functions across Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom and Europe, including advising on BHP policies, legal reform, the management of racism, sexual assault and harassment, bullying and workplace conduct issues, and advising on restructures and redundancy. Working collaboratively with Legal and other Functions to ensure BHP is appropriately managing employee relations legal and other external risks. About You As a successful candidate you will possess the following: Experience in employee relations legal matters, including the provision of strategic legal advice on enterprise bargaining and the operation of industrial instruments, and the provision of practical employment legal advice to various stakeholders. To be considered for this role, a law degree and the ability to practice in Australia is essential. Post admission experience of at least 4-6 years is desirable. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Good commercial acumen and excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to resolve complex problems, present well-articulate legal arguments, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
