Position: Principal Legal Officer Location: North Queensland Salary & Benefits : Up to $180,000 Super Salary Sacrifice (negotiable dep on exp) Our Client: Our client is at the forefront of advocating for the rights and aspirations of Native Title Holders in North Queensland The Role: As the Principal Legal Officer, you will be an integral part of the Executive Management Team (EMT), providing strategic leadership and legal expertise to advance the organisation’s mission. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing legal strategies, managing teams, providing high-level legal advice, and overseeing the preparation and conduct of native title claims. This role requires a passionate and skilled individual dedicated to making a positive impact on Aboriginal land rights and justice. Key Work Duties: Provide strategic contributions to collaborative decision-making within the EMT. Contribute to the development, support, and implementation of the Strategic Plan. Liaise effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Develop and implement legal strategies. Provide Leadership, mange, supervise, mentor and support the Legal Team. Provide high-level, strategic legal advice to native title groups. Provide leadership to inspire and motivate the Legal Team. About You: Collaborative team player. Proven track record in providing strategic leadership and support to boards and management teams. Deep understanding and commitment to Aboriginal societies, cultures, and aspirations Understanding Native Title Act 1993, the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (and their Regulations) , the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld), the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) and other legislation as appropriate. A strong understanding of the rules and procedures of the Federal Court of Australia, the National Native Title Tribunal, and State tribunals and courts having jurisdiction in matters affecting native title. High professional standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite and adaptability to other technologies. You must: Hold or be eligible to hold a practice management certificate in Queensland. Eligible to be entered in the Register of Practitioners of the High Court. Benefits: Generous remuneration package circa up to $180,000 Super Salary Sacrifice. Negotiable & dependent on skills and experience. Note: This role involves regular travel within the region and other intra/interstate travel. You will need a current open driver’s licence.
