Minimum qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 8 years of experience with data structures or algorithms. - 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages. - 3 years of experience leading projects and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems. Preferred qualifications: - Experience leading a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team as an individual contributor or similar. - Technical experience in production infrastructure. - Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems. - Ability to create an inclusive environment. - Systematic problem-solving approach with effective communication skills. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google's services-both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems-have reliability, uptime appropriate to users' needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE's will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance. Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you'll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design. In this role, you will help ensure the reliability and availability of Google Photos for users, the end-user applications, and internal uses of our technology stack. Google Photos is a photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought after products at Google and is looking for both client-side (web and mobile), with server-side (search, storage, serving) and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers. We are dedicated to making Google experiences centered around the user. - Be a technical leader in determining how SRE defends Google's products for users. - Create, drive and deliver service level objectives that enable product reliability. Work closely with other engineering teams to reuse and understand existing frameworks. - Identify systemic risks to the product as a whole, and determine strategies to mitigate. - Be a technical change agent within the wider Google Photos organization, using data and analysis as motivation. - Manage end-to-end availability and performance of mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence.
